In the library at the elementary level we use many different apps and websites to work with our students grades Kindergarten through 5th. Check out some of the apps below and how they are used at school. Most are free that students can download and access from home, with parent permission and on a tablet, smartphone, or computer. Learning can happen everywhere: school, library and home!
DESTINY QUEST
Go beyond the walls of your library with the Destiny Quest Mobile App! Search your library catalog -- anytime, anywhere! Available for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad, this app puts the powerful searching capabilities of Destiny Quest -- in the palm of your hand.

What can I do with the Destiny Quest Mobile App?
• Search for resources in your library and read the library's collection of purchased ebooks
• Submit and read ratings and reviews
• Place holds and add items to My List
• Discover the Top 10 Most Popular titles and New Books at your library
• Maintain lists of books you’re Now Reading, Want to Read and Have Read
• View your Account information including checkouts, holds and outstanding fines
• Use the Resource Lists posted by Teachers & Librarians, to find resources on the topics discussed in class.

Download the app in the App Store. Enter this website (one time only):
http://ec-destiny.newbraunfels.txed.net/
Then choose  your child's school.
From then on it's your child's ID number for both the username and password to log in. Have fun!

ITUNESU
This is where your children get their classwork and assignments on their iPads. All they need is the course code from their teacher and then they can access all the materials through there.
Ask your librarian for the code to their iTunesU course.

After they retrieve the assignments in iTunesU they send their work to Notability (which is a purchased app through the school district). Once the worksheet is in Notability, students can complete their work and send it to the teacher for grading in eBackpack (another app that is through the district).

BIG UNIVERSE
Big Universe is a subscription website that all the elementary schools use for ebook access. It has thousands of ebooks that your child can access from home. The app is free or you can access from any desktop computer!

These apps allow students to type papers (Google Docs), create a spreadsheet (Google Sheets) and build a powerpoint presentation (Google Slides).
All work created in these apps will stay in your child's Google Drive until they graduate high school.

PIC COLLAGE
Pic Collage is another app that we use in library and in class. It is a free app that allows students to make a digital scrapbook using photos from the internet or within the app, create text and backgrounds as well as insert GIFs. It's great for a final project to show understanding. We used it for Digital Citizenship Week in library to show what they had learned about copyright, fair use and internet safety.

MAKE BELIEFS COMIX
Make Beliefs Comix is a great app for short storytelling using comic strips and is also free. The 5th grade teachers used it in the classroom recently to show what students learned at the Mid-Texas Symphony and to document their experience. 4th grade used it for an assessment on commas.

SEUSSVILLE
Seussville is a great website that allows kids to do activities, worksheets, coloring pages, games, videos and books that have to do with Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss Week is February 29-March 4th this year! It's a free site that all kids love.
